54-year-old Gobinda Malik is responsible for his wife, two sons, and daughter with a mere monthly income of Rs. 7,000. Having just had sent his younger son for deployment in Hyderabad, Malik developed an infection in his teeth which resulted in severe pain. After a routine checkup at the local doctor’s, Malik got a tooth removed upon suggestion. A few days after the tooth removal, symptoms of swelling and pain in the right side of Gobinda’s alveolus surfaced. Gobinda was taken to a district hospital, investigated, and as a result was diagnosed with Cancer of the Right Lower Alveolus. Upon diagnosis, Gobinda was referred to the Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai for further management.

After a long journey from West Bengal to Mumbai, Gobinda was suggested chemotherapy, surgery, and radiotherapy upon arrival. Having arranged funds from personal savings, borrowing money from relatives and friends and selling the entirety of his family’s gold, Gobinda was able to cover Rs, 50,000, the intensive phase of his treatment. In order to complete this complex but promising treatment, Gobinda is in need of an additional Rs. 2,00,000. Upon completion, Gobinda wishes to return home with his son, who left his job to support his father in battling this extensive disease.
