From what seemed like an allergic reaction to consuming fish, 42-year-old Zamirun Nisha Shaik never imagined that she would be diagnosed with Tongue Cancer upon investigation. After being taken to a local doctor for what looked like an injury in Zamirun’s mouth, Zamirun was put on a course of routine medications. A few days later, Zamirun’ symptoms worsened, and swelling was seen around her tongue as well as a formation of an ulcer. Zamirun was immediately taken to Sion Hospital and it was there that an intensive investigation revealed Tongue Cancer.
Zamirun was referred to the Tata Memorial Hospital for further management. After having spent her family’s entire personal savings and having borrowed money from relatives and friends, Zamirun arranged Rs. 45,000 for the intensive phase of her treatment. In order to complete Zamirun’s treatment, Zamirun is in need of an additional Rs. 50,000. Upon completion, Zamirun wishes to return to her responsibility of a mother to her two school-going children and as a pillar of support to her husband.
