Hailing from Uttar Pradesh with a mere income of approximately 6000 rupees a month, Mamata is responsible for supporting her husband, four young children, elderly in-laws and treatment for her recent diagnosis. From what had seemed to be an ulcer prolonging for eight months, instead, turned out to be a lengthy treatment revealing cancer of the right buccal mucosa.

32-year-old Mamata sought for a more effective treatment far from her hometown at the Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai. Here, she was advised to take chemotherapy, scheduled for surgery and later arrange for radiation therapy. After arranging money through personal savings, selling gold and taking loans from family and friends, Rs 2,50,000 has already been spent for the intensive phase of her treatment involving surgery. Unfortunately, due to complications postoperatively, Mamata is due for a second operation. In order to complete her treatment and return to her responsibilities in Uttar Pradesh, Mamata is in need of Rs 2,50,000. Once treated completely, Mamata hopes to return to Uttar Pradesh and be reunited with her children.
